The Garden offers teachers and students the opportunity to experience firsthand one of the most diverse plant collections in the country. Because there is too much to see during one visit, each school program focuses on specific areas.

Guided Tours
Guided tours of the Atlanta Botanical Garden are available to groups who choose to have a docent lead tour that correlates with their grade level and curriculum.
- Guided tours may be scheduled Tuesday - Friday. Refer to the Guided Tour listing for tour times.
- Guided tours must be scheduled at least four weeks in advance.
- Minimum group size: 15; Maximum group size: 50
- Group must include one chaperone for every eight children.
- Chaperones are admitted free of charge and may accompany the group. Additional chaperones will be charged the student rate and will not be permitted to participate in the tour.
- Guided tours last 1 - 1-1/4 hours. Include enough time for your group to assemble before and after your tour.
- Allow up to one week to receive registration confirmation.
Students: $7 Adult Chaperones (one for every eight students): Free Additional Chaperones: $7
Flower Hour Preschool 10 a.m., 11:30 a.m., 1 p.m. Preschoolers will enjoy a story and a short walk in the Outdoor Gardens. All stories are age-appropriate with a garden theme. Flower Hour is the ideal Garden experience for young sprouts with short legs and short attention spans.
Roots, Fruits and Seeds Grades K - 2 9:30 a.m., 1 p.m. This Children’s Garden tour focuses on how plants provide for other living creatures. Students explore the close relationship plants have with butterflies, bees and people. Each group will walk through the life cycle of a butterfly, visit a Creek Indian house, observe growing vegetables and more. Plant Diversity Grades K - 3 10 a.m., 11:30 a.m., 1 p.m. While most plants have similar parts, each species’ can vary in function and appearance according to their environment. During this tour, students will discuss plant part adaptations as they explore the Outdoor Gardens and the Gardens Under Glass – particularly the rainforest, desert and southeastern bog gardens. (Georgia Performance Standards: SKL2.b, SKL2.c, SKCS1.a, SKCS4.c, S1L1.a, S1L1.c, S1CS1.a, S1CS4.c, S2L1.a, S2CS1.a, S2CS4.d, S3L1.b, S3L1.d, C3CS1)
Plants Around the World Grades 4 - 7 10 a.m., 11:30 a.m., 1 p.m. Students will visit the Outdoor Gardens and the Gardens Under Glass as they investigate biomes and habitats. Their explorations will include the desert, rain forest and bog gardens and will emphasize biogeography and plant adaptations. (Georgia Performance Standards: S4L1.c, S4L2.a, S4L2.b, S4CS1, S5CS1, S6CS1, S7L4.e S7L5.a, S7CS5.a, S7CS1)
General Tour Grades 7-12 10 a.m., 11:30 a.m., 1 p.m. Students will be introduced to the outstanding features of the Outdoor Gardens and the Gardens Under Glass. |

Self-Guided Group Visits
Group Visits to the Garden are available to groups who choose to explore the Outdoor Gardens and Gardens Under Glass without a guide.
- Group Visits may be scheduled Tuesday through Sunday at 10 a.m., 11 a.m. and 12 p.m. Group Visits in the Children's Garden are available only after 12 p.m.
- Group Visits must be scheduled at least two weeks in advance.
- Minimum group size: 15; Maximum group size: 50
- Groups must include one chaperone per every eight children. Additional chaperones will be charged the student admission price.
- Allow up to one week to receive registration confirmation.
Students: $5 Adult Chaperones (one for every eight students): Free Additional Chaperones: $5
Materials are available to help elementary students self-guide through the Garden. By selecting "Garden Adventure Pack" under Group Visits on the registration form, you may reserve small backpacks to be issued to each group upon its arrival and collected when the group departs. One Garden Adventure Pack is issued for every 10 students and their accompanying chaperone.
Grades K-2 Garden Adventure Pack What Will You Find at a Botanical Garden? Includes age-appropriate activities which lead students to discover that a botanical garden is home to many kinds of plants ranging from trees and vines to plants that live in the desert and rainforests.

Grades 3-5 Garden Adventure Pack Plants Differ in Many Ways Includes age-appropriate activities which illustrate that plants differ in the amount of sunlight they require, their means of reproducing, and their mechanisms of adaptation to various environments.

Garden Outreach Program
Invite the Atlanta Botanical Garden into your classroom for engaging programs that will amaze and astound students of all ages. Each program includes interactions with living things as well as hands on-activities.
• Cost: $160 for the first session and $120 for each additional session • Each program is 45 minutes long and must be scheduled between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. • Programs can have a maximum of 25 students • Program sites must be within a 25 mile radius of the Atlanta Botanical Garden
Rainforest Frogs Pre K – 5th Grade Have you heard of tadpoles that live in plants? Did you know there are outrageous colored frogs with unique patterns? Students will journey to the rainforest without leaving the classroom to learn more about frogs (especially Poison Dart Frogs), their adaptations and their special relationship with Bromeliads.
Sneaky and Sticky Plants Pre K – 5th Grade Investigate the diverse and unique ways plants capture and digest insects. Students will feel sticky sundews, watch a Venus flytrap close and discover what some Pitcher Plants have been “eating”.
